pronunciation ‘vase’ and ‘zebra’

 

When I heard it on the English file, it sounded weird, so I looked it up.

The reason: they have different pronunciations in american English and in British English.

– vase: /va:z/ (Br. E.)
/veɪz/ (Am.E.)

– zebra /’zebrə/ (Br.E.)
/’zi:brə/ (Am.E.)

It looks like I’ve listened to too much American television…
